Celebrity Look Alike

Prom is one of the most awaited events in high school year because it means more freedom to them to step up into college life. Of course, it also means party with the drinks and food plus all the joy of friendship and fun. Most girls really take heart in this once in a lifetime event of their life investing more in their prom dress and looks. According to recent survey, most girls sought for prom dresses that are short and sexy. I think that they young are quite liberating nowadays, not just because time has changed, there’s also a big influence of media. They play a big role in the lives of the young especially in the aspect of fashion and manners. Take for example the hit teen drama Gossip Girl; people like to watch the glamorous characters in the upper east side of Manhattan’s elite. I’m no longer a teen but I’ve seen episodes one to three. Why not, we love to see beautiful people and deep within ourselves we long to be rich or look beautiful. I’m sick of watching news anymore, either they are serious or too depressing. In times like this, we need to lessen our worries and focus more on the life’s positives. But that doesn’t mean we have to splurge in luxurious things especially in clothing. Don’t try to dress up like Serena Van der Woodsen for it would really cost you an arm and a leg. If you’re looking for nice prom dresses try to shop online and offline. Try to gather as much choices and compare their style and affordability. Go for prom dresses that are below $100 and not exceedingly sexy or daring. This way you would be comfortable all night long and you won’t be in trouble with your parents. If you want to have more fashionable and trendy ones, try searching online. If you’re having difficulty with choosing the style, search the net for what’s in and what’s hot. I think colorful short dresses like pink, red and green with puffy sleeves or features are hot nowadays. Same thing goes for selecting your jewelry. Go for something vivid and match the colors with your gown. Birthstones like ruby, amethyst and sapphire are just brilliant. Don’t deal much on luxury jewelry since you are not attending a red carpet awards night. You can still have the celebrity look by following their style; it’s up to your abilities not to overspend.

That’s the last time I go out to a fancy dress party without a decent costume!

Last night my girlfriend and me went over to a friend’s house for a little dressing up party and some late night boogie.

We didn’t really put much effort into our outfits and when we got there we were blown away by the costumes everyone else had on!
There were a load of people in 70’s fancy dress that just looked so cool that I felt like just leaving quietly by the backdoor. Our host though was great, she was dressed in Minnie Mouse fancy dress, and she took us upstairs to enhance our outfits from her dressing up box. I changed most of my sad looking outfit and borrowed a trilby, black suit, and white tie for the gangster fancy dress look. She even had a set of spats for my shoes. As I said Karen is a great friend and without that quick costume change I couldn’t have relaxed enough around all those other great outfits. My girlfriend, Lisa, shooed me out of the room for her transformation.

Back down stairs the music was loud and full of bass, excellent grooving music. Saw some old friends that I didn’t even recognise in their full Devil fancy dress costumes, including the red face paint and horns. What can I say it was an awesome party, great people and the DJ was old school playing vinyl!

Then Lisa came into the room in her new outfit, I think Karen must have had a whole outfit lying around upstairs. She was totally transformed by her Abba fancy dress outfit, the short skirt and platform boots, wig, makeup and almost see through top … stunning – I know I am biased but from the looks of everyone else I wasn’t the only one to think so.

From that moment on we were just part of a wicked party and a great time was had by all, yeh sure someone threw up over the amp and the police really didn’t need to be that harsh about the volume, but it was still one of the best parties I have been to for ages.
Here’s to good times friends and loud music!

The Emmy’s Fashion Fever

People love celebrities, they love chasing them like paparazzi going gaga just to have a picture for an instant scoop. These stars whose earnings cost a fortune have given up their privacy for the opportunity of stardom and money. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine there could be heartless people taking advantage of them, without even knowing that they are still human beings capable of hurt; they think that their lives have become public figure once they decided to pursue this kind of career. On the other hand, there are some celebrities who just go along with the flow; they try to be nice with some camera guys or paparazzi rather than bear the consequence of being published in instant celebrity gossips about their weird act or even some kind of misdemeanor. I love celebrities too, I follow Hollywood news and aside from online buzz I watch TMZ every now and then. In the office I’m the one who’s always updated with celebrity news and what has transpired in Jay Leno or who guessed in Conan O Brien. As a typical citizen, I’m a sucker of America dramas as well. To top my lists is House, for some reason I just find it really entertaining. Anyway still talking about celebrities, I guess the best thing that we can get from them is no other than fashion. People don’t just emulate them; others are even trying hard to look like them. The last big event aside from Kanye West’s disastrous act in VMA was of course the 2009 Emmy Awards. This red carpet premier is one of the biggest awards night on earth, viewed by people almost all over the world. Celebrities arrive in limos, in dresses and gowns and stunning jewelry by the known and fabulous designers. Some of the best dressed celebrities were Drew Barrymore, January Jones, and Jennifer Morrison in a red hot simple Calvin Klein strapless red hot dress. I also liked Olivia Wilde’s bold one-sleeved, cut-out Marchesa gown, with shimmery metallic silvers, she really is hot. Well there were also some celebrities who made their ways to fashion blunders but still it’s not good for us to make fun of their attire. A lot of fashion enthusiasts also watch this event to create more ideas like best prom dresses and stuff. In my case, I think to those who flunked their fashion meter they’d better play safe next time. They can also wear short prom dresses just like Kristin Chenoweth did.

80s fancy dress

Fancy dress - worth the effort? Absolutely! What can be more fun than a house party? A party with a theme! This is why Halloween is the second most popular holiday after Christmas. People love dressing up! People love pretending to be someone else just for one day - to improvise and play act in cat woman costumes or super hero outfits. Fancy dress truly exposes the extravert at any party! Those who make the effort are always up for a good time!

From James Bond themes to Alice (or Malice depending on your taste) in Wonderland mad hatter tea parties, fancy dress is a wonderful way to meet new people and get caked in make up without feeling an idiot. From 60’s rock n roll to 70’s free love and even the afro clichés of 80’s fancy dress, people can re-live, or experience (for the new generation) fashions, trends and attitudes from that particular era. Born in the 80’s my music taste has suffered in the eyes of today. Bring on the 80s fancy dress, the skimpy leotards – padded shoulders, illuminous socks, retro funky – punk - doc martins & skinny jeans. How can the 80s era have ever left fashion?

Costume wearing, fancy dress and masquerade parties prevent people from feeling inhibited, allowing them to freely flow in their newly fashioned alter-ego.

The preparation of fancy dress making can be very creative too; there are plenty of fancy dress shops out there for a quick fix and quality look, but with an imaginative mind and help from the local charity shop there are endless possibilities crafted for the most individual of dress sense and taste.

One of my personal favourites was a Halloween outfit. An acquaintance dressed up as a road kill cat!!!! This involved the use of prosthetics - for wonky ear syndrome. Also tyre marks were glazed across a furry handmade garment which was pinned and squeezed in by a corset! Just for the authentic squished kitty uniform!

This fancy dress outfit got a barrel of laughs. Suffice to say the cat never made it back at the end of that night!

Dress to Impress

It’s going to be my first party in the company and I would definitely love to impress. Last time, my boss asked me, “Do you have a formal dress?” My initial reaction was blank and I felt my throat got dried. Formal dress was not really my style, I mean I’ve been with a lot of companies and most of them didn’t require office uniforms and I just wear formal dress during Christmas party. The last gown that I used was from my friend, a soft velvet long black gown with some sequins on it. It’ was not really bad after all and I guessed I was one of the prettiest ladies that night. I have a very simple fashion rule though, in whatever kind of dress you wear, you just have to make sure that it goes with the right accessories. Now, going back to my boss’ question, I could have said no I don’t really wear formal clothes but since I’m a newbie it was instinct to say , “ of course, I do ! Or I’ve got plenty of them; it’s not going to be a problem. At the back of my mind I’m thinking that I have to impress I can find a way. So, my boss wanted me to host a party to welcome our clients from the East Asia, basically Japanese, Koreans and Chinese. I don’t think it’s going to be a problem because I have plenty of people to work with me, not to mention social connections. The place has been booked along with the caterers and all I have to think about is what to wear on that occasion. My last resort is to shop online for my daytime schedule is reserved for office work. One time I went online and Googled for some formal dresses. In just a couple of seconds I was presented with so many links, formal dresses, evening dresses, prom dresses, home coming gowns, cocktail dresses etc. My first choice was to go for evening dresses of course for I know they would answer my problem. I was just disappointed for if they’re not overly formal, they’re pompous or just like attending an award’s night or a ball. Then I found this link, about short prom dresses and I think they’re just perfect for the event. These prom dresses Clarisse solved my problem. They’re elegant and sophisticated and I know would make a good impression.

Reminiscing Prom Night

My sister and I were in the malls yesterday and she was choosing prom dresses yesterday and she was really in to it. The look from her eyes said it all… she really wanted to buy those prom dresses that she was able to see and even wanted to try them on, when I remembered that she is already in college and there are no more proms in there! I asked her why she was choosing a prom dress then she replied if only the dresses were as pretty as those dresses that she saw, she would have gotten the title of prom queen. I just told her that it has been a few years back and should not be worrying it anymore. At least she got nominated that time and she was not a nobody, unlike some girls who can’t even attend the prom because they think nobody would even want to sit beside them in the tables. And besides, she was able to have a great time because a lot of guys wanted to dance with her and getting a date was never a problem. Then she just smiled at me and said thank you, then treated me to the nearest ice cream bar… Nice!
